  • Tuesday 5th October 2021 - East Grinstead Jazz Club with Peter Jones and Vasilis Xenopoulos

Tuesday 5th October 2021 - East Grinstead Jazz Club with Peter Jones and Vasilis Xenopoulos

Jenny Green Hosts with Guests - Vocalist Peter Jones and Vasilis Xenopoulos on Tenor Sax.
House Band with Adrian York keys, Paul Whitton Bass with Vince Dunn on Drums.

Peter Jones is a high-energy jazz singer who performs regularly at jazz clubs throughout London and the south-east. His albums under his own name and with the band Zoöphyte have received excellent reviews, with tracks from the band's debut album Signs of Life played on Jazz London Radio, Jazz FM, Worldwide FM, Solar Radio and several other stations in the UK and overseas. Zoöphyte released a new EP Out of the Cave in January 2021.

Tonight Peter appears alongside his long-time collaborator Vasilis Xenopoulos, with whom he has recorded four albums. Vasilis himself is one of the UK’s top tenor saxophonists. An alumnus of Berklee College, he has released several albums under his own name, the most recent of which is Dexterity, his tribute to the great Dexter Gordon. He works frequently with guitarist Nigel Price in their shared quartet XPQ. The Times has called Vasilis “one of the most fiery young saxophonists around [who] blazes a path through the hard bop repertoire.”

  • Tuesday 2nd November 2021 - East Grinstead Jazz Club with guest on sax Simon Spillett

Tuesday 2nd November 2021 - East Grinstead Jazz Club with guest on sax, Simon Spillett

Jenny Green hosts with guest on sax, Simon Spillett
House Band with Adrian York keys, Paul Whitton Bass with Vince Dunn on Drums.

"Straight-ahead, high energy jazz is his line and he does it with aplomb"
    The Guardian

Over his career Simon Spillett has worn almost as many hats as it possible to wear within jazz; multi-award-winning instrumentalist (BBC Jazz Awards, British Jazz Awards), big band leader, recording artist, author, historian, record producer, archivist, magazine columnist, Social Media commentator and latterly blogger.

However, for all these varied skills he identifies most strongly as a powerfully swinging, straight-ahead tenor saxophonist, one capable of taking the audiences who hear him on a roller-coaster ride encompassing everything from energetic bebop and heartfelt balladry. And it’s in this guise that he’s become a solid draw across the UK jazz landscape, regularly playing major festivals (Birmingham, Brecon, Swanage, Southport etc.) and world famous club venues (Ronnie Scott’s).

A charismatic performer, gifted with a dry observational wit, he’s never lost sight of the fact that jazz is entertainment as much as art and whether playing, writing or articulately holding forth on his favourite subject – UK jazz history – he’s an infectiously passionate communicator. 2021 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of his becoming a professional jazzman and it is planned to mark this milestone with a new band, a new book and a much awaited fourth album.
